An island-wide power failure was reported a short while ago, the Power and Renewable Energy Ministry said.
Ministry Secretary Dr. Suren Batagoda said the cause of blackout experienced at around 2.15 this afternoon could be due to the tripping of a substation in Biyagama.
He said engineers from the CEB were looking into the matter.
On an earlier occasion a similar power outage occurred causing much uncertainty about the reason for it.

If a report of any mistake from a health care person happen it will get wider publicity. The involved people will lose the job and their imsge will be tarnished. But everyday these power failures are happening and nobody blammed.

These are lame excuses. The real reason for the power cut is intentional due to low rain fall thus trying to save hydro power. Its a shame that in this day and age we are still relying heavily in hydro. via DM Android App

Last time they had the weather gods to blame. Now we have no rain and the weather is fine. Biyagama trips and the whole island fails. Who can believe such lame excusese. The next time when we turn off our air conditioner the national grid will fail.
