A total number of 205 people have lost their lives and 1,254 received injuries in 1,959 road accidents reported across the country within the month of April alone, the Police said.
According to the statistics, the highest number of accidents were reported in the month of April in comparison to other months of the year, especially during the Sinhala and Hindu New Year seasonal break.
Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the highest number of accidents which stood at 768, were reported from the Western Province.
In addition, 237 accidents were reported from the North-Western Province.
The statistics further says that motorcycles and three-wheelers were the common and prominent vehicles that have involved in several serious road mishaps.
The police media spokesman said the highest number of accidents take place on Mondays. (DSB)
