The Laboratory tests have confirmed that 95% of Sri Lanka’s current COVID-19 cases are of the Omicron variant, Director Health Promotion Bureau (HPB), Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa revealed today.
Addressing a news briefing at the HPB, he said the number of COVID-19 infections is on the rise and so is hospitalization.
“However, we have noticed that people have showed a bit more enthusiasm and interest to get the booster dose which was not the case earlier. People showed slight hesitancy in receiving the booster dose due to various myths,” he added. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

In country like the US and UK, the hospitalisation of cases infected with the Omicron variant having been fully vaccinated is small and they have even stared to consider it as a flu. In Sri Lanka hospitalisation is high. This could be due to the vaccine, namely Sinopharm has a low efficacy rate or not effective against Omicron. Now we pay the penalty.

The Sputnik One shot vaccine is proving to be best of all the booster vaccines. It was designed to accommodate variations in the virus whilst the Pfizer is targeted specifically for the original virus. The publicity campaign of Pfizer points to "tweaking" the vaccine for other variations. This has not been done. Hence the problems in Israel.
