An earthquake measuring 4 on the richter scale was reported today about 28km south in the sea from Paanama, a senior official of the Seismic Data And Tsunami Alert Centre (SDTAC) said.
He said the tremor was recorded in the four seismic centres situated in the country at 4.53 am.
"The tremor was recorded at the Pallekele, Mahakandarawa, Hakmana and Buddangala seismic stations," the official said.
However the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and the police had informed the SDTAC about the quake, he said.
