Ariana Dambarawa Hewage, from Huddersfield, is said to have an IQ higher than EinsteinA 10-year-old school girl of Sri Lankan origin has proved she is "smarter than Einstein" with an impressive IQ score.

Ariana Dambarawa Hewage, who lives near Leeds Road in Huddersfield, took a Mensa IQ test recently and scored 162 - said to be "genius" level. The likes of Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawkins' estimated IQ is 160.

Ariana, who attends St Patrick's Catholic Primary Academy in George Avenue, hopes to become a famous scientist herself some day. The school girl, who loves reading, recently took her entrance examinations for grammar schools in West Yorkshire. Her parents were told she "has a gift" when she was inundated with offers for each school she applied for."She's my genius" said dad Janaka Dambarawa Hewage. He said: "When she took her exams recently we realised just how smart she is."

"She passes every test easily. She loves reading, science, and is always talking to me about time travelling." Janaka suggested Ariana took the IQ test and was pleased when Ariana was excited about the idea. "The exam was about two hours", he said.

"She was put through different tests. Some were maths problems, problem solving, and verbal and non-verbal tests. It was quite long.

"She scored 162 which only a small percent of people in the country can get. She got two marks higher than Albert Einstein."

After taking the test Ariana received a certificate to say she has scored within the top two percent of people who take the test. The certificate reads: "Congratulations. We are pleased to invite you to become a member of Mensa, the High IQ Society. By taking up this invitation you will join a community of more than 20,000 people with a high IQ just like you."

Ariana is a member of her local Brownies team and enjoys a number of extra-curricular activities. In the future her parents hope she enters science competitions and her new found "genius" status will spur her on in her studies and passion for her maths and science.

Congratulations Ariana. Best wishes for a extremely successful future, where Srilankans too will be proud of you.

Lasantha de Silva Thursday, 17 November 2022 06:24 PM

She better not attend a Sri Lankan university in the future, because you hardly can call them universities. The best university in Sri Lanka ranks 1600 worldwide. She will not learn anything from them and probably get very bored.

Kapila Fernando Thursday, 17 November 2022 06:27 PM

Surely her parents must be proud of her and I wish her all the best. But I think my mentally handicapped son is also a genius and very special.

Melbourne living Sunday, 20 November 2022 12:06 AM

Autistic children can more capable than others in some specialist areas. The girl has been tested and found to have high IQ. Are you making fun of her as having other deficiency, or why do you think your "mentally handicapped son is also a genius and very special"? Is it just your lauding him as loving parent, or is there something he may contribute to society in general which makes him want to give him elevated label like "genius"?

Proud Sri Lankan Thursday, 17 November 2022 07:08 PM

Smart people, invaded and ruled by not so smart white people for 450 years , finally beginning to make a move once again.

Sammy Cooper Monday, 21 November 2022 09:55 AM

This racist comment should not be left unchallenged. In the end this girl grew up in a white country and the white country's educational system has produced her. A lot of Sri Lanka's problem is due to narrow minded thinking.

Karalasingam Sivalingam Thursday, 17 November 2022 07:16 PM

She is hardworking, perseverance cupled with brightness by birth, congratulations.

Melbourne living Sunday, 20 November 2022 12:17 AM

How you know that? My children, they are hard working, but there are gifted children around who are born with far greater ability, whom my children can't compete against. But that's how it is, those born with genius can generally do much better academically with less effort than anyone with ordinary intelligence.

A lot of people smarter than Einstein. n 1895, at the age of 16, Einstein took the entrance examinations for the Swiss Federal polytechnic school in Zürich (later the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule, ETH). He failed to reach the required standard in the general part of the examination. So it's what you make of yourself in the end. NOT IQ numbers.

    Gunadasa Saturday, 19 November 2022 04:50 AM

Einstein is always considered as a genius person who contributed world of science. He failed the ETH entrance exam in 1895 but passed it next year and that doesn't mean he had low IQ even in 1895.

Congratulations Ariana, very best wishes for your future,

Congratulations bright future there but humility persistence play a vita L role.be patient carry on

    Rajakaruna Friday, 18 November 2022 01:09 AM

Well done girl! Keep-up with your excellent work!

Saman Amarakone Friday, 18 November 2022 01:29 AM

What great news! I wish her all the best so that she can continue her "genius status" into the future to serve mankind by achieving new frontiers in science.

    Zak Friday, 18 November 2022 02:59 AM

Plz stop posting news about achievements of overseas lankans…we should be ashamed of chasing these people away from the country in the first place.

Melbourne living Sunday, 20 November 2022 12:09 AM

@Zac If that child lived in Sri Lanka she could not become genius. Government school system denigrates anything but traditions, and greater capability in young children is seems big headed going against Sri Lankan values. You should be ashamed you live in country which defiles the intellect of younger ones and want to fight against the institutionalized repression.

    Ram Friday, 18 November 2022 03:08 AM

Congrats to our little Sri Lankan Genius. Keep up the work you do to better your mark next time

    Thimothy Friday, 18 November 2022 06:51 AM

Leave the children to be children. We all like if our child is smarter but when you cross the limits, yours and others expectation from this child is completely differnt and it takes the childhood away from this poor kid. Leave her alone and admire her genius. Dont stress her life.

Melbourne living Sunday, 20 November 2022 12:15 AM

Who is stressing her? How is article or anyone commenting stressing her. Her being a genius is only useful to society as a whole if she manages to contribute to society, beyond what an ordinary person does. Otherwise what use are genius? They deserve nothing more than ordinary child, unless they can do more.

Kumara kotuwegada Friday, 18 November 2022 07:29 AM

This is just a news.! No one can reach Einstein !

Kadu Karaya Friday, 18 November 2022 04:38 PM

I hope for humans on the planet there are many who can surpass him. Too much romancing about Einstein in a country where there won't be one like him, until the education system is rebuilt to allow for greater or gifted intellects to thrive even in children. And of the thousands with greater IQ than Einstein how few can do something great for humanity?

    M.h.a.rahman Friday, 18 November 2022 08:10 AM

    Congratulations keep it up.

Tissa Fernando Friday, 18 November 2022 08:43 AM

    Congratulations. Some good news.

Nilupa warnakulmasuriya Friday, 18 November 2022 08:46 AM

We proud of you dear . Wishing you a very good future.

Radha de Mel Friday, 18 November 2022 08:58 AM

Congratulations and all the very best for the future, Ariana! I am sure that in the future you will use your knowledge and skills to improve the quality of life for the poor and marginalised.

    Sinhalese. Friday, 18 November 2022 11:51 AM

It is sad that the Parents who are born Sri Lankans seem to be proud to be citizens of another country !

Kadu Karaya Friday, 18 November 2022 04:34 PM

In Sri Lanka the girl would never be able to reach the height she has. It would have been a loss to whole of humanity had she been wasted intellect in backwater like here, where all the primary school education is done in the so called mother tongue, so destroying the child geniuses like her. I am Sinhala, but you call yourself Sinhalese, like the stupid British called our race. Disgraceful of yourself to go with the white boys labeling!

    DPerera Saturday, 19 November 2022 05:12 AM

In Sri Lanka there is no pathway for an extraordinary intelligent student to enter a university at younger age without doing the AL Exams. But in developed countries high intelligent low age students can enter many universities without wasting much time in schools and without doing usual university entrance exams. If Ariana is living in Sri Lanka her life would be wasted

    Cherath Friday, 18 November 2022 04:21 PM

Congratulations Ariana! (I know someone who scored 176 at the Mensa supervised test many years ago, at 13 years of age. His parents too were born in Sri Lanka)

Melbourne living Sunday, 20 November 2022 12:12 AM

What happened to that boy when he grew up. Did he become just another medical doctor in a hospital, or did he do research to find longer term benefits for many more than the patients an individual doctor could ever treat? Or did he end up failure?

    Patriot Friday, 18 November 2022 05:09 PM

There may be many talented people, especially in our country who are not nurtured and allowed to grow. Their ability and knowledge are ignored due to country's economic hardship and lack of support. Feel very sorry for the hapless and struggling present generation. All due to the mistakes of the country's egoistic and selfish elders.

    Jef Friday, 18 November 2022 09:05 PM

Congrats there are many many sri lankans doing we'll once migrated specialy devolop nation's are a huge plus the quality of life second to none best wishes
