JVP says no alliance with UNP

The leader of the JVP Somawansa Amarasinghe today stated that the JVP never had an alliance with the UNP and that each party that supported the candidacy of General Sarath Fonseka did so separately. “We have not formed any alliance with the UNP; we supported the General, the UNP supported the General and the other parties supported the General Separately,” Amarasinghe told Daily Mirror online.

“The only agreement was that we will work in unity to make the General, President of this country; to hold a free and fair General election to bring back good governance, to bring back good governance and to make this society a dignified society,” he said.

He further stated that the party had not been weakened due to their actions during the Presidential Election. “There was no alliance at all; no JVPers left the party because we supported the General; no one,” Amarasinghe said.

Amarasinghe spoke on the New Democratic Alliance and confirmed that the General Fonseka would head the new Alliance. “He has given his consent and I have no doubts. If you have any doubts they will be cleared in the next few days. I am not vacillating, the General is not vacillating, the JVP is not vacillating, the General’s party is not vacillating and the parties that will join the alliance are not vacillating,” the leader of the JVP said.

He further stated that the JVP and the parties of the New Democratic Alliance were in complete agreement and would contest the General Election in unity. “There is no infighting in the new alliance. Once we form an alliance the JVP won’t be thinking in a selfish manner, no selfish ambitions. Once we decide to contest as an alliance that will be an alliance,” he said.
