A third Court Martial is likely to be convened against General Sarath Fonseka over alleged illegal arms deals committed by him during his tenure as the Army Commander and documents relating to the deal are in the process of being scrutinized, Defence sources told Daily Mirror online.
According to sources the Court Martial is expected to include six colonels and one Brigadier. Some 18,000 files are being probed over the deal, Defence sources further added.
A court of appeal recently suspended the first court-martial proceeding against the detained former Army Chief until May 21 so that a decision could be taken on the validity of the legal proceedings against him.
The court-martial is inquiring charges that the retired four-star General had conspired against Rajapaksa and his family members, besides engaging in politics while being in uniform.
Meanwhile, the second court-martial looking into charges of violation of military procurement procedures by Fonseka, is continuing. (Daily Mirror online)

Who is the deciding authority. It seems that the Army is going to produce a Mega serial. The Defence Ministry should understand that this cannot go on like this. One day it has to end and give a verdict, until then the General has to be treated as innocent.

It is about time that the Rajapaksha government let go this war hero to live in peace. This is the guy who actively directed our forces to destroy LTTE leadership to bring about lasting peace to the country. Everyone should hail this achievement no matter which political belief you have. It was his strategies that one the war. True, The President & his brother Gotabhaya helped by giving the correct political leadership. But the major credit should go to the General. The President's popularity will further expand if he takes this brave decision to free up General SF.

You must be joking! At this rate it seems like the SL Army has been incompetantly managed by the Defense hierachy and a committee should be appointed to investigate how these things could have been going on without negligence of the higher authorities.
