The government has decided not to increase the price of essential items before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Trade Minister Bandula Gunawardena told Daily Mirror online. He added that tax benefits have been given to importers to control the price of goods.

Further, at a meeting headed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the Cost Of Living it was decided not to increase the price of Gas and Milk as requested by the respective companies because it would have an adverse effect on other goods and items. (Daily Mirror online)

What "Badumila" Gunawardene is saying is that they will control the prices until the election is over, allow people to celebrate new year, and then, let the prices 'sky rocket,' with a big bang! By then, they would have all made it to Parliament, to enjoy the subsidized food.
