The type of past uni students are the ones who are still jobless.
Gayan Samarasekara Monday, 18 October 2010 10:25 AM
Some comments and public discussions depict the anger and jealousy some people have with university students. This is due to the limited quota of annual entrants selected to the local universities on competitive basis. However irrespective of student feedback for private university openings, the minister is unnecessarily intractable and is acting like a bull in a china shop. Such a shame -- this man has been appointed for the position held by C.W.W. Kannangara and Iriyagolla.
Mr.Copycat Monday, 18 October 2010 10:29 AM
Very Good!
OMG! Even good things are happening in this land too...
Also sack the Rascals from Universities. Bloody, waste of our tax money.
spark Monday, 18 October 2010 10:32 AM
If their parents could not teach them values and discipline, then it is the duty of the legal system. Very good move by the Magistrate. However, this same clout of the law should apply to illegalities perpetrated by the state machinery against its own citizens.
Taj Monday, 18 October 2010 10:33 AM
Let JVP who misguided these youth pay for this too
Sanje Monday, 18 October 2010 10:33 AM
Very good move. They don't understand the value of free education. People are pawning their houses to educate children. Moreover these rascals should be give final warning. if they found guilty for any more incidents to sack from the Uni education.
dutugamunu Monday, 18 October 2010 10:37 AM
this JVP lead so called student unions are distrying our public properties ...we remembered that very well in 71 and 88'89 .. burning buess .. kiling governments servants ... we need some one like Mr Ranjan Wijeratne to teach them a good lesson ..
Galle Don Monday, 18 October 2010 11:52 AM

Oyage sudu kella Monday, 18 October 2010 12:04 PM
My dear Gayan, I just missed the z score to get into a govt uni in SL but I am not jealous of our Uni students at all. We are really blessed to get this 'free' education and free hostel, electricity, free water, free furniture etc in hostels compared to other nations where nothing is free. So why can't these idiots make use of these facilities and study ? Neither they study nor they allow private unis to be opened in SL for the sake of people like me to do my higher education !
Antharay Monday, 18 October 2010 10:24 AM
We owe MR.
Bhathiya Monday, 18 October 2010 12:19 PM
Actually this students can learn and go for jobs, they are doing this for future kids all the A/L students. Why SB can't put another 15 local universities other than private then they can intake more.. then every people can study, whether he/she rich or poor.. So many people of Srilanka not selected to the local universities so they have some jealous(thatz the truth). If you select to the University you will be protecting Srilanka free education too.. Now the government way is wrong , they arrest Gen Sarath Fonseka.. any one of Srilanka can't accept it..SB is doing the same thing. I don't why r they doing this? i think with a 1 private university they can get more(pagawa).
If you ddnt get a chance to go ur Son or daughter will.. So think about it..
Nalaka Monday, 18 October 2010 12:40 PM
who would be jealous of bunch of jokers??. What rights do these students have to comment on private universities??. If this bunch of parasites are asked to pay for their education we would not have single strike
herath Monday, 18 October 2010 12:47 PM
it seems that people who have no idea about what these students demanding. i feel sorry for people of this country. the poor are doomed, no doubt. i was a university student once and i jolly well know the hardships these students face. most of the people who comment here do not have empathy....sorry folks its not for JVP even this limited opportunities for poor students is long gone. just my two cents..
vihanga Monday, 18 October 2010 01:08 PM

very sad!!Victims of political drama>
sanjee Monday, 18 October 2010 01:59 PM
Government is playing with students life. They close all universities and open prisons every where.
Govt. is going with there agenda to open private universities by creating issues in side the universities and letting students to come out, protest and then put them into prison and rest at home.
sanjee Monday, 18 October 2010 02:03 PM
Everybody think that university students are JVP. That is want the government want others to think and they brain wash through the government media to make that kind of idea among the public and going to their target of opening private universities. When mahinda comes to power all the university students behind him but not he hit back ...
sanjee Monday, 18 October 2010 02:07 PM
when the law does not works equally and it is only for the people who are not in-line with government ideas, students have to come forward for their rights. Past students who did that save us this free education otherwise it would have buried about 2-3 decades.
krishh Tuesday, 19 October 2010 04:15 AM
we are in srilanka...........no more ordinary laws are applicable
Kolla! Monday, 18 October 2010 09:51 AM
Awesome! IUSF should be banned! There are many good movements inside the universities other than IUSF!
An undergrad!
Sri Monday, 18 October 2010 09:33 AM

wasala Monday, 18 October 2010 09:33 AM

JayDee Monday, 18 October 2010 09:46 AM
Excellent! Guess it's another brave judgement by Ms.Lanka Jayarathne.
immysl Monday, 18 October 2010 09:46 AM
I have no worries of these students not getting bail, but why on earth did those murderers of a children got it two days back?? The crime they committed is far worse than this!!
Fayad Monday, 18 October 2010 09:48 AM
good move, they are future of the country if they behave like thugs what sort of professional are we going to have in the future??????
srinath Monday, 18 October 2010 09:48 AM
These students should know when the thing hits the fan, It is only their parents going to be around. There is nothing wrong with non violent protests, But utmost prority for them to finish their education ASAP and make way for other students to join. Tax payer spend a great deal of money for the free education and they should appreciate it.
Rajitha Monday, 18 October 2010 09:50 AM
please make JVP pay for all the damages.
Tax Payer Monday, 18 October 2010 09:51 AM
Good move. The undergraduates should realize that even the universities come under the law of this country. They enjoy free education thanks to tax paying citizens of this country. Therefore, the responsibility of undergraduates is to study not to do picketing and behave like uncivilized tribes. It is good authorities tough on them.
Oldboy Monday, 18 October 2010 09:31 AM
Very good move by the Chief Magistrate. They must be properly deciplined.
laksiri Monday, 18 October 2010 09:52 AM
they should be stripped of their studentship and never allowed to even come near a university ever again!..
backstreet boy Monday, 18 October 2010 09:52 AM
Well Done !! let this be the beginning to end all such madness in the name of student protests.
Holman Monday, 18 October 2010 09:57 AM
VERY VERY GOOD. Put them behind bars in the zoo for all to see. ha ha :)
Shivanka David Monday, 18 October 2010 09:58 AM
Very Good!! give them the good punishment!! since they are supposed to study & not show their thuggery figures in the uni.
Danushka Bakmeewewa Monday, 18 October 2010 10:02 AM
Well Done,, they never to be relaeased on bail, Students must be students,, Sri Lanka would have been Socialist country long ago if these continue the Socialism even after the pass out if the university.
Utter waste of money of their poor parents. J V P, and Inter Univercities Students Federation(I U S F).
Tisaamharama Monday, 18 October 2010 10:11 AM
I fully endorse the court decision. At the same time, let there be a dialogue at broader level among the parties concerned over the issues that led to this undortunate state of affairs
pandula Monday, 18 October 2010 10:15 AM
But Ranjan on bail see the difference and who broken into UN has not got any complaint but a cup of water from top.
Tuan Mohamed Monday, 18 October 2010 10:16 AM
Damaging public property is first taught in schools and it followed upto University
