Lankan maid arrested in Sharjah

Sharjah Police have arrested a Sri Lankan maid at Sharjah Airport attempting to flee the country with stolen gold jewellery valued at Dh82,000.

The maid was working with an Asian household in a neighbouring emirate and hid the jewellery tins of in milk powder she was carrying with her.

According to the police, the maid admitted to stealing the jewellery from her employer, who were out of the country when she tried to flee.

Investigations revealed that two other Lankan maids are also involved in the robbery, one of whom previously worked with the same employer.

This maid was sacked by the family for her unwillingness to work hard. Before she left she made copies of the house keys and helped plan the robbery. (Emirates 24/7)

90 of the house maids who go abroad, are doing well and they are happy when they return back to sri lanka. These medias never tell about that. foreign recruitment is a main pillar of our economy too. More than one million sri lankan are working in aborad, many house maids have built their houseses with their salary. Will any of these medias bring these stories. We are used to talk only about the black dot on white paper. Every one forget the white ?

Government must fix minimum Salary for each category of employment in Middle East. Sri Lankan embassies in Middle East must gear up to deal with abused/run away workers. Foreign employment Dept in Sri Lanka must come up with a better solution to manage these situations.

DXB. What you said is quite right. But every cent is important for our regime in power. All what it wants is to declare its glory even through the sweat of those maids who go their for peanuts. They declare how many are employed in Middle East and how much they send here. Nothing else. No guts to demand a minimum salary for them. But don't forget of the fact that our foreign employment bureau is comprised of very efficient officers and a very able minister too.

These Lankan Maids are working here for a mere slaary of around AED 800 per month by costing the family life , I could not find a woman labour in Lanka for LKR 15,000/= ... Goverment should seriously think to band them flying to overseas as a labour/ House maid on a dream life.

Who's mistake, knowing the rule of country, doing such things who to be blamed, finally just make highups for the muslims as well to muslim country, if the foreign bearau has a proper job done such things would have been avoided, they just want the money and stamp the passport for exit, for this they easily identify housemaids who are helpless.
