Eleven Indian fishermen in three trawlers who were distressed in the North West of Delf Island yesterday evening due to engine failures were rescued by the Sri Lankan Navy and the trawlers were towed to the Delf anchorage, Navy spokesman Captain Athula Senerath said.
“The trawlers were repaired by the Northern Command and are now ready to repatriate and we have informed the Indian High Commission”, Captain Senerath said. (SD)

LTTE ghosts are yet to leave Sri Lankan shores. They are still haunting in the northern and eastern waters. Obviously, Navy has to be on alert to protect the sovereignty of the country. All of a sudden news comes in that a discovery of haul of explosives, weapons, ammunitions etc. No doubt that a significant part of these deadly stuff had been reached here from Southern India and for which some of these Tamil Nadu fishermen are responsible of transporting these items on payment by the separatists. Of course, when they strayed into Sri Lankan waters in large numbers Navy has to do their duty to challenge them. As well, when these guys are in distress as humanitarian mission Navy will undertake to rescue even their worst enemy!
