Film Producer and Director Chandran Ratnam was released without any charges against him by the Gangodawila Magistrate today.
Ratnam was arrested by the police last week for allegedly possessing explosive materials in his former residence in Nugegoda.
The Gangodawila Magistrate released Ratnam after he produced a license issued by the Defence Ministry permitting him to keep explosives to be used in films.
The house belonged to a Rosy Abeywickrema and had been rented out from 2006 to 2008 to be used as the office of Film Location Service owned by Ratnam.
The landlady when questioned by the police said the company Film Location Service had rented it out for two years and that she went into occupation last year.
Ratnam said when the office was shifted he had instructed his production executive to remove the items to the new office but it had not been done.
When the case was taken up today he produced a letter issued by the Assistant Controller for Explosives attached to Defence Ministry permitting him to keep the explosives in his possession for use in filmmaking.
