While condemning the slaughtering of cattle, Public Relations Minister Mervyn Silva said today he was committed to stop cattle slaughtering at any time.
“I do not have a specific time or date to stop slaughtering. I do not mind even day or night. I am there to act against this. We need to put an end to cattle slaughtering,” he said.
He was speaking after visiting Hunupitiya Kelaniya, where a van transporting cattle without permit, was raided this morning.
Twelve heads of cattle were found in the van at the time of the raid. Four of them were dead.
Minister Silva said that now he had started acting without talking.
“I have decided not to talk. Normally, I don’t talk when working. Cattle slaughtering should be stopped in this country, I even stopped selling beef in Kelaniya.
“This should not take place when a just ruler is ruling the country,” he said.

Religion and personal choices should not be a part of ruling a country. Anyway there is so much top quality beef ready for export in Canada, USA, Australia etc.
No market is too small.
Stop the slaugher of cows. Take the income and employment opportunity of small muslium entreprenuers in every city.
Give your valued foreign currency to import beef.
Atleast the rich and the tourist will have the access for AAA and Angus beef from Canada.

This country it's politicians and even voters make a super cast for a comedy...... 8000.mt tons of chicken get eaten by people every month. Please note i don't consume beef nor chicken but i can't see the logic in stopping the slaughter of one type if animal only... stop all animal slaughtering in that case... stupid idiots

gamini ruvan Thursday, 08 August 2013 10:11 AM
I am agsinst any kind of animal slaughtering in sri lanka.but muslim community should have the freedom to carry out this in a proper way.if this is banned completely it cannot be considered as a fair call towards muslim brothers. If authorities can introduce any kind of technologies which has been in place of middle east to slaughter animals it would be a fair call as from this move animal will not suffer for long time

You may have good intentions to rescue cattle from inhuman slaughter but you being a legislature can't act on impulse and take law to your hands. I will be surprised if you are a vegan, May be you could champion the creation of better abattoirs.

I am lost to know who is the 'just ruler' ruling this country. What did the just ruler do to the former Chief Justice and what did the just ruler do when Duminda was brought to Sri Lanka.
You or son wants to come into the limelight, that's why you want to do something to get publicity.

I am sorry to note the direction the country is moving into, petty petty issues of no importance and relevance , just see the other countries in the region or a bit outside how they are developing, the difference is that they do not have ministers like this idiot or priests taking politics which has ruined us.
