National Trade Union Center (NTUC) will call for a Rs. 9000 pay hike in the 2011 budget for government and private sector employees due to the raising cost of living, NTUC President Lal Kantha said. (YP)

It's a competition between the JVP and the UNP to be more visible than the other in the opposition. Who can blame them when there is no election round the corner, they can't do a lot anyway.

Yes, president pledged Rs.2,500 salary increase to public sector. Sarath Amunugama said government has taken steps to increase the salary level from 7,900/- to 11,730/-. Isn't he a responsible minister??

This was the promise of SF not government. They said about Rs. 2500.00 only. Actually people who couldn't get into the power can give even higher promises for a pay hike. But the winning party can't give that type of promises.

When UNP proposed Rs.10,000/= that was promised by SF at the last Presidential election, his own party people asking Rs.9,000/= pay hike. On what basis?. It should have been at least Rs.12,000/= and considering the future that is also not enough.

This is a promise of the government when presented an interim budget, so they are bound to keep this promise! As it is, nobody knows where the country is heading!
