While issuing an extraordinary gazette notification, the Labour Department Commissioner General Prabhath Chandrakeerthi had amended the formula for the payment of compensation to workman.
Accordingly, the formula for workman compensation payment which was at in words “Rupees One Million and Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand” has been increased to “Rupees Two Million Five Hundred Thousand”.
The amendment was made after consultation with the Labour Minister.
Section 6D of the Termination of Employment of Workmen (Special Provisions) Act, No. 45 of 1971 as amended by the Act, No. 12 of 2003, the Gazette notification said.
Subsequently, the Order made under Section 6D of the aforesaid Act amends, and published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 1384/7 dated March 15, 2005
However, the new gazette notification was issued on February 25, 2021, with the signature of the Labour Department Commissioner General in Colombo. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
