Heavy traffic was reported in Colombo today because of a vehicle parade oraganised by the GMOA and several other groups calling for a solution to the SAITM controversy.
GMOA Secretary Haritha Aluthge said they would launch a countrywide joint trade union action on Thursday if the government did not provide a reasonable solution to this matter even after the vehicle parade.
“The vehicle parade which began on Tuesday from five districts reached Colombo today. We have also launched a district-wise work stoppage during the past few days against SAITM,” he said,
Dr. Aluthge urged the government to solve this SAITM controversy without further delay and said students attached to State universities and SAITM and several others were inconvenienced because the government was not solving this longstanding matter.
He said they would be forced resort to trade union action on Thursday if the government failed to provide them with a people-friendly solution and that they would await a positive response from the government before Thursday.
Meanwhile, Dr. Aluthge said that by refusing to register SAITM graduates the British General Medical Council (GMC) had also supported the GMOA’s views on SAITM. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

Why cant the government stop them from entering Colombo. They are a menace. How can people get home to their families today? And what if there is an emergency. I wish the government doesn't waiver on their stance lets see what these trouble makers will do then!

All vehicle parades, cycle races, marathons, walks etc that block the traffic should be banned immediately.

If the government can't stop these parades from disturbing the public then these fellows should be kicked out by the public for causing inconvenience after getting their education out of the tax payers money. These people should be punished definitely how many patients are suffering because of these bloody fools.

Absolutely right. The public should give these goons an appropriate response.

Dear Mr. President and Prime Minister. I just wonder if you can see what's taking place in this country. The public are suffering . You have to make urgent decisions to bring this to stop. If you cannot then best thing is give away to someone who could handle the problem as we spend so many hours on the road while you folks travel in luxury vehicles with no interruption.
