In middle east government doesn't decide the cement price. If you think cement can be sold at $5 then why don't you import it at that price? That is how economies work.

This happens when there is no demand for dollars, as most of the imports are beyond the reach of ordinary masses. So demand drops resulting the less imports

Again, the SL rupee can not go up against the dollar or any other currency as the SL rupee can not be traded anywhere in the world - this is just a hoax of the Central Bank and the Government.

Buying power of the people are controlled as the income is statice while prices of food medicine fuel and all the consumable items have sky rocketed . So dollars are plenty as the demand has plummeted. This is not an economic recovery this is purely keeping the people hungry to save money.

Exporters will watch the sales plumment and dollar will rise again Monday, 29 May 2023 06:03 PM
Exporters get less and less revenue from sending overseas. Buyers will not want exorbitant priced Sri Lankan products. Export revenue will plummet, and rupee should be heading to the 500 rupee per dollar mark soon enough. Exporters will rejoice once rupee starts falling again, as will tourist operators.
