Public assistance sought to find Pakistani national wanted over drug smuggling

The Police have sought public assistance to find a Pakistani national wanted over smuggling of more than 111 kilograms of heroin into Sri Lanka in 2016.

Police said seventeen suspects were arrested over the incident during a raid conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) in Sri Lankan waters in April 2016 and indictments were filed before the Negombo High Court against the suspects.

An accused in the case, a Pakistani national, who was residing temoporarily in Badalgama, was granted bail on July 04, 2025 and was ordered to appear in the Police Narcotics Bureau every Sunday as per the bail conditions. 

The court issued arrest warants on the suspect after he violated bail conditions by not apearing in the PNB as ordered.
