Colombo, April 21 (Daily Mirror) - A disturbing incident involving the poisoning of 10 dogs in the Kalawewa area yesterday has triggered widespread public outrage and prompted swift intervention by animal welfare activists.
According to the Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC), executive member Mihiri Siriwardena visited the site yesterday and engaged with relevant authorities to push for urgent legal action over what the group described as a “cruel and unacceptable act against innocent animals.”
The suspected individual believed to be involved in the incident has reportedly been identified, and police have now launched formal investigations. Authorities have not yet made any arrests, but inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.
Animal rights advocates have strongly condemned the incident, calling for strict enforcement of animal cruelty laws and demanding that those responsible be brought before the courts without delay.
The AWC said that it will continue to monitor the investigation closely and work with law enforcement until due legal process is completed.
“This is not just an isolated case of cruelty; it reflects a serious concern that must be addressed through justice and accountability,” an AWC representative said.
Police have urged the public to refrain from speculation as investigations continue.
