Hot weather to continue despite rains in some areas: Met. Department



Colombo, April 4 (Daily Mirror) - The Department of Meteorology said yesterday that the hot weather will continue throughout April despite rains being forecast in some areas in the country.

Meteorologist Pabodini Karunapala said atmospheric conditions will be favourable for afternoon thundershowers in most parts of the island and that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most parts of the island after 1.00 p.m.

She said Rambewa in Anuradhapura received highest rainfall of 86.5 mm and Aluthwewa in Moneragala received rainfall of 74 mm in the last 24-hours.

She said the hot weather will continue despite the rain and urged the people to follow health advices to be prevented from extreme heat.

Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology issued a ‘Caution level’ heat advisory at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Eastern, North-western, Northern and North-central provinces and in Moneragala district.

According to the data of the Mahaweli Authority as at March 31, Samanalawewa recorded water storage of 59%, Castlereigh 27%, Upper Kotmale 60%, Kotmale 24%, Polgolla 93%, Victoria 60%, Randenigala 88%, Rantambe 58% and Bowatenna 80%.
