Holiday for Tamil schools on Monday

The Education Ministry today informed that all Tamil schools across the island will be allowed to enjoy a school holiday on account of Deepavali festival, an important religious and Tamil cultural festival in the Hindu calendar, which falls on Monday (24).

They said the holiday would be allowed considering the needs of Tamil schools on account of celebrating the festival.

According to the Ministry, schools will be held next Saturday (29) instead of the holiday to cover up the syllabi.

It is also informed that the principals of those schools should inform the Zonal Education Directors about their leave. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

What nonsense Tamil Schools, Muslim Schools and Sinhala Schools... what're we feeding separation, segregation, division from the grass root level. Forget all, Tamil student studying in non-Tamil schools are not given a provision to celebrate? why!. Holiday or not, make it to all, already we have enough holidays.

G Prakash, you must be a jealous Christian Tamil with false name. Deepavali is an important celebration for the Hindus and as over 85% of the Tamils are Hindus it is logical that all Tamil schools be given a holiday on that festive day.

It won’t even be a surprise that the North Indians would refer to dark-skinned people as demons purely on the basis of their skin complexion. Irresponsible reporting. Tamil schools has been given an extra holiday on Tuesday 25th October beside the public holiday on 24th October in lieu of Deepawali. Irresponsible reporting misguiding people....
