Colombo, April 24 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo High Court Judge Rashmi Singappuli today ordered that the case filed by the Attorney General against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and his grandmother Daisy Forrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act be recalled on June 10.
During proceedings, State Counsel informed court that a related case concerning the same allegations has been filed before High Court No. 08.The State Counsel further stated that a revised indictment is to be filed in that case and accordingly pointed out that a revised indictment may also need to be filed in the present case.
He therefore requested court to fix a date to report on the progress of those proceedings.
Accordingly, the High Court Judge ordered that the case be recalled on June 10 and directed that the progress in this regard be reported on that day.
The Attorney General has filed this case under three counts, alleging that between March 31, 2009 and December 12, 2013, the accused had committed an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act by depositing over Rs. 59 million, the source of which could not be disclosed, in fixed deposit accounts maintained at three private banks.
