Heavy rains flood roads in Nawalapitiya, disrupt traffic

Colombo, April 21 (Daily Mirror) - A brief but intense spell of rain in Nawalapitiya on the afternoon of April 21 left key roads inundated, with flooding reported at the town bus stand and along the Nawalapitiya–Kandy Road, severely disrupting traffic.

According to a local correspondent, the downpour lasted just an hour from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.,but poor drainage systems failed to cope with the sudden influx of rainwater, leading to rapid flooding in low-lying areas.

The incident has raised fresh concerns among residents over the town’s drainage infrastructure, with many pointing out that even short periods of heavy rain continue to trigger similar disruptions.
