Govt Analyst, DMT officials inspect Gerandi Ella ill-fated bus

Colombo, May 15 (Daily Mirror) - The Government Analyst and officials from the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) inspected the ill fated bus that claimed 23 lives of passengers in Gerandi Ella, Ramboda last week.

The inspection was carried out today by the DMT officials at the Kotmale Police Station, where the wreckage of the bus is kept.

The bus was also examined by the Government Analyst at the Kotmale Police Station yesterday.

Preferably current “lorry buses” will be phased out soon. Engage with the Chinese, French, British and Aussie bus operators to run a few major routes on condition they bring in all the investments and new buses. Allow them to operate these routes for some numbers of years. SL Government will set the expectations and regulations for these foreign companies to run these routes. Government may also seek a percentage from their profits too! Win win for the citizens, government (no initial investments) and operators also.

CEAT tyres is the common factor in most of these accidents. CEAT tyres are not designed for wet conditions and high speed.

Is it true that the power stearing leakage was existing in that bus. So a guy who works at Kataragama dipo has mentioned it on sm. He has told the the bus drivers of this bus has ask to fix it several times but the authorities neglected it multiple times. Pls check this matter for verification.

The driving test done by the panel is inappropraite in the absence of the actual load at the time of the accident. A bus had more than 75 passengers at the time of accident whereas it was meant fortransporting 55-60 passengers. So, the tests are unrelaible and the panel should be mindfulabout their responsibilty to the socienty and government.
