EC sets deadline for LG polls contestants to submit election expenses

The Elections Commission of Sri Lanka announced that all contestants of the recently concluded Local Government polls should submit their election expenses before the 28th of this month.

A senior official from the Commission told the Daily Mirror that as per the Regulation of Election Expenditure Act No.3 of 2023, all candidates are advised to prepare their election expenses individually and submit them to the Commission before May 28.

Likewise, 8,793 candidates who contested for 339 Local Government bodies are legally required to state their expenses by the given deadline to avoid legal action.

Therefore, these candidates have been asked to submit these expenditure reports to the respective Returning Officers of their districts, the official said.
