Countrywide liquor sales banned for May Day

Colombo, April 30 (Daily Mirror) - Countrywide liquor sales, except for the occupants of three star hotels and above, will be prohibited tomorrow in line with the May Day, by order of the Excise Department.

Commissioner General of Excise U.L. Udaya Kumara requests the public to inform any instances of violations of the Excise Ordinance to its hotline 1913.

If you need liquer you will find them plenty, just go to the pohottuwa may day meeting in Nugegoda, there will be plenty of bottles freely availble which is sufficient for you not only for good boos but also for a good bath.

What's wrong with the commissioner? What is the logic here? It is the workers day and let them enjoy a drink if they need to. What right/authority has the commissioner to prevent this?
