Cigarette prices increased

The Ceylon Tobacco Company (CTC) has announced that, following the increase in Excise Duty, cigarette prices will be raised under four categories starting from January 11, 2025.

The prices of Capstan and John Player cigarettes will increase by Rs. 5 per stick, while the 83mm Gold Leaf will see an increase of Rs. 10 per stick.

Increase both taxes alcohol and tobacco related products even more. Many will Disagree but when health issues arises, many will understand! Currently, with free medical in government healthcare facilities, current taxpayers are footing the bill. So it’s unfair for those who don’t smoke or drink to pay for an expense they were not involved in. Basically, the extra taxes collected will be used to foot the bills of the future when medical issues of excessive smoking and drinking arises.

No problem many cigarette smokers have already turned to BEEDI. In 1970s there were slogans in the ruling party's processions' Hall nethuwa kema kanwa, seeni nethuwa the bonawa. Now people have to add one more slogan - Cigarette nethuwa BEEDI bonawa. Keep it up L board government.
