Bribery Commission to act tough on those spreading false news about Commission

Colombo, October 2 (Daily Mirror) - The Bribery Commission said today that legal action will be taken under the Anti-Corruption Act and other laws against those who spread false news on the Bribery Commission and disgrace it and its activities.

The Commission said in a statement that certain persons and institutions with vested interests are engaged in propagating baseless and misleading statements on the Bribery Commission via electronic, print and social media.

The Commission said such acts will lead to tarnishing the image of the Commission and deviate the people's attention from the ongoing major investigations conducted by the Commission while resulting in creating a distorted opinion on the legitimacy of the Commission's activities.

The Commission said it was vested with statutory powers under the Anti-Corruption Act of 2023 to ensure the independence and impartial implementation of the powers of the Commission.
