Someone is trying to take away your attention from all the hardships that the common man is facing in Srilanka and all of us are wasting our time worrying about vandalization of statues! Haven't we seen enough distruction in the country which are far more greater than the vandalization of these statues?

Mahathma Ghandhi, Load Buddah, Jesus Christ and many others , they are great example for human, they would definitely hate to block the traffic at junctions. If you really respect their stratus rather than their teachings, first of all kill the birds who untidy them.

Oh My dear friend Lanksiri, you should advise those morons in GoSL govt to stop wasting money and building massive Buddha Stupa everywhere in Jaffna and northern provice. for that concrete they should build more water tanks and houses to poor people. :-)

Bavana John Friday, 06 April 2012 07:42 PM

My dear dont create problems! Please leave Muslim freedomly. How did you come that conclusion?

    Sammy Friday, 06 April 2012 07:22 PM

The statutes of these great people are erected to draw inspiration from what they have done and as a reminder of them. People who vandalize these are obviously uncultured, uncouth and without any sense of values, like those who vandalized the Bamiyan Buddha statutes.

Mohamed Hussein Friday, 06 April 2012 06:01 PM

Dont talk nonsence. Muslims in Sri lanka have never resorted to insult leaders or scholars of other communities. That may be the inborn quality of you people.

    alibaba Friday, 06 April 2012 05:01 PM

As long as this uncultured mentality exist, there is no way forward for the people of Sri Lanka. Peace will only be a dream. Revenge and destruction is the answer to any issue. Very sad!

    sam Saturday, 07 April 2012 06:24 AM

No wonder, educated people leaving country!

    manilal Monday, 09 April 2012 01:13 AM

Priya - you have said " someone " first find out who is that ?why you are trying to divert the attention from the topic ? these statues are importent assets for the people of the area who protected and admired the great leaders for decades for their service to the world and community.destruction will continue in sri lanka if people like you use negative tactics to save the culprits.

    MSSalam Sunday, 08 April 2012 11:00 AM

I thought Gautama Buddha was from India, and don't we have plenty of statues of him everywhere? Why are you not complaining?

    Noor Sunday, 08 April 2012 09:39 AM

Simon, why you all think negatively, why not positively, i don’t know which religion you are, but don't herd any religious. in fact, we all follow on the other hand, the English culture, why you are not talking about this??? Nonsense people like you never help to keep peace within the communities in SL..

    I Hussein Sunday, 08 April 2012 04:53 AM

Kumaraya, you clearly exhibiting your qualities. Its people like you who created an LTTE. Unfortunatly there is a small minority crowd in this country create communal disturbances time to time. bah Saturday, 07 April 2012 10:32 AM

simon, is there anything wrong to follow the Arab culture since we are multicultural society and we need tolerance to coexist. while 6 Arab countries voted in our favor at the sometime most of us follow the Europe culture who are against us at the UN.

    bah Saturday, 07 April 2012 10:25 AM

Peter, your message is offensive. Still people are how hatred to each other without knowing the fact first. This incident is going to unite all the community in the east especially the Muslim and the tamil.

    waz Saturday, 07 April 2012 10:01 AM

Please change your attitude towards Muslims!

    Simon Saturday, 07 April 2012 07:15 AM

islam and statues just can't seem to co-exist. Those statues are to blame for causing such intolerance and hate. on a side note, I have visited the East, was my first visit there as a tourist last year, and i found the place terribly repulsive. They seem to glorify an arab culture by naming roads and towns after despots in the Middle East. Their women dress in black ninja costumes and the men dye their beards in a repulsive red color. I believe South Asia is doomed because of these people.

    truealf Saturday, 07 April 2012 06:41 AM

Good . Now its time to make a new Better Stautu of them and replace in the same place. And punich the coverd.

    Haftu Friday, 06 April 2012 03:34 PM

    Rahmathullah Saturday, 07 April 2012 05:34 AM

This may be the work of people, who want to antagonize India for supporting the motion against Sri-Lanka at Geneva. This will only deteriorate Sri-Lanka's image in the International arena.

    bah Saturday, 07 April 2012 05:18 AM

Do not worry all. All the statues that are destroyed will be replaced by another one much better look than the previous one.
CCTV camera is going to come in every corner so the real culprit will be caught easily in future.

    subbiah Saturday, 07 April 2012 05:37 AM

Para, you are right. This is the handiwork of the Islamic radicals and may be the start of a demand for a separate Islamic nation. Look at the streets of Batti. What are those trees planted in the middle of the roads?! From where has all the money come for the "development" of Batti?!!

This is very sad news. Mahathma Ghandhi was the greatest leaders the world has had. When President Obama was asked by a school kid as to whom he would like to have lunch with he said is would be the Mahathma. There are a lot we can learn from him. It is said that all he had at the time of passing away was his glasses, watch, bowl and plate. Well that was all. He travelled on foot.

Gamini Udagepola Friday, 06 April 2012 07:39 AM

Unwanted statues for them, it seems.

    Nalaka's Comments
"why do we need a statue of Ghandi in Sri Lanka and why do we need to worry this is not a part of India"

Please note Mahathma GHandhi is a world reckon leader and he's the father of non violence and his statue is been kept in most part of the world not only in India.

    Is it a LTTE work?

    Nodrog Friday, 06 April 2012 01:19 PM

    Raja Friday, 06 April 2012 01:23 PM

This is not the work of uneducated foolish people. This the work of cunning LTTE supporters who do the dirty work and then blame the SriLankan security forces in order to antogonise both the Indians as well as the British. However, I do not believe as to why these statues are in Baticaloa instead of Colombo?

    Sriyasena Friday, 06 April 2012 01:21 PM

This is terible. It is suspicious because it has happened in a High Security Zone. Those lunatics responsible for this, are really scared of even statues of great people.Surely not done by a Tamil.

Kolomba Kaka Friday, 06 April 2012 12:52 PM

Yeah guy, its much easier to blame on those blokes than looking for the real culprits!

LTTE, EPDP or any humans who admires peace will respect Gandhi

    Pius Friday, 06 April 2012 12:28 PM

Why are we doing such horrible and venomous act of hatred?. Who is behind this terrible act of terrorism? Why can't we find ways to build peace rather than hurting and de-humanizing the people in the East? How would you feel if someone destroy the Lord Buddha's statue? Be kind to one another and respect each other. We all can live in peace and enjoy life. Wake up Sri Lanka.

Janaka Perera Friday, 06 April 2012 12:56 PM

This might be the work of a Taliban-type group emerging in Batticaloa. The Talibans hate all statues, all works of art, music, dancing, cinema, TV etc.

    laksiri Friday, 06 April 2012 12:19 PM

this is not a big deal.you do not need to have many concrete jungle every where in the country.let used such material to build one more house to people living in camp.amount of concrete used to build to many status every where if properly used by the country would have many more water tanks and housed to poor people.
