The United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentary members today unanimously decided to nominate former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Opposition Leader, MP Chandima Weerakkody said.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror he said the decision was taken by all 101 UPFA MPs following a meeting with the President this morning.

Seems there is no alternative to the Opposition. They have to be on MR bandwagon for their future aspirations. Amazing there is no other leader to take this position out of all the stalwarts. Perhaps, survival of all others depends on him.

He handed over the application to join SLPP. Then he was nominated as the party leader. Now his brother Basil says that non of the applications from the SLFP has been accepted so far! Why the people of this country understand that this Rajapaksa family manipulate everything to their advantage? They will do everything to get some power. To serve the people? Joke of the century.

Saradiel, you are spot on. The reality is that by obtaining membership of another political party, they automatically lose membership of the SLFP. Under the recent Constitutional amendments, they thus lose their seat. The mastrs of manipulation have done it again and the poor fools are the voters.

But MR is a member of SLPP. We all saw him taking the membership from JL P and thereafter MR was giving the membership to few others. As far as I know SLPP has no agreement with UPFA/SLFP nor SLPP has any seats in the parliament
