A story about a young man who was charged 20 Rupees for a tablespoon of coconut Sambol which he consumed at a restaurant was reported from Kegalle.

The youth who was a villager employed in Kegalle was a regular customer at the said restaurant. He also usually left a tip of 20-30 Rupees for the waiter. On this particular day, he had ordered bread with curries for breakfast. The waiter who used to serve him coconut Sambol had failed to bring the sambol on that particular day. When inquiring as per the reason, he had explained that due to the increase in the prices of coconuts, the price of coconut sambol had also been increased. Subsequently, the waiter had served him with plate of sambol of which the youth had consumed barely a tablespoon.

The waiter had later told him that even though he consumed little less than a tablespoon of Sambol, he still had to charge him for the entire dish and charged him twenty Rupees for the sambol.(Chaminda Wewathenna – Kegalle)
