Husband wants wife back from Kuwait immediately

A father of four whose wife is reportedly being detained and harassed at the Foreign Employment Agency in Kuwait yesterday requested the government to intervene to bring her back to the country immediately.

R.M.Lokubanda who is a coconut plucker by profession in Kosgahahinna, Galewela had been informed by his wife Indrani Kumari through several phone calls that she was being beaten and harassed by the agency staff there.

Mrs. Kumari had also informed that she along with other women being detained there were being sold to Kuwaiti employers.

He said his wife was cheated by a sub agent and sent to Kuwait claiming for house work without following proper emigration and immigration laws.

Mr. Lokubanda said he had dislocated his hand and was going though misery to look after his chaildren.

When inquired, Foreign Employment Minister Thalatha Athukorala said she requested Mr. Lokubanda to lodge a complaint regarding the matter with the Foreign Employment Bureau to take further action.

“We are not aware of the issue. To take further action to bring back her to the country, we must have all the details of the woman. After we get the information, I will personally intervene into the matter to solve it,” Minister Athukorala said. (Piyumi Fonseka and Kanchana Kumara Ariyadasa)
