Subash Hotel, Jaffna, comprising 36 rooms was the main hotel in Jaffna, where many visitors to Jaffna stayed, including VIPs. It had been requisitioned by the armed forces during the war and handed back to the family owners. The entrepreneur of Subash Hotel was late A. Sangaran, who also had a flourishing ice-cream business, Subash Café and Icecream in the Jaffna town, which was a virtual monopoly in the 1970s.

Recently, late A. Sangaran’s family reopened the refurbished Subash Hotel, initially operating only 10 of the 36 rooms, under the able leadership given by one of the sons, S. Hariharan, Managing Director, Subash Tourist Hotel (Pvt.) Ltd.

As a gesture of goodwill and remembrance, Nihal Sri Ameresekere, Management Consultant, who had been the Consultant since the early 1970s to late A. Sangaran and Subash Hotel was invited to light the traditional lamp at the Subash Hotel reopening ceremony recently.
