Cinnamon Lodge adjudged the ‘Best Green Hotel’

The efforts of Cinnamon Lodge, Habarana in achieving its John Keells pledge of “I will be green”, was commended recently when the hotel was adjudged the ‘Best Green Hotel' in Sri Lanka (large hotels over 50 rooms and boutique hotel category) at the EU-Switch Asia Greening Hotels Awards 2013.

The EU-Switch Asia is a joint project by the European Union and the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce which awards hotels annually for exceptional performance in the areas of Water, Energy and Waste Management. The judging is done by an eminent panel who are acknowledged experts in their respective fields and the winners are selected after a stringent process which culminates in an interview with the General Managers of the respective Hotels and Engineers, to ascertain the facts.

The top award, “The best green hotel” is awarded for exceptional performances in all areas related to sustainable green practices.

Winning the top award this year was an absolute honour for Cinnamon Lodge as well as for the entire Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts chain as it portrayed its values towards achieving the goal of sustainability which is ‘People, Planet, Profit'.

‘In today's context, there is so much tourism development taking place in order to support the vision of the country. It is therefore very important to make this whole industry more sustainable and so we pay due consideration to the green aspect. Cinnamon Lodge is the pioneer on this aspect and we are delighted that our efforts were recognized, by way of winning this prestigious award' said Ghazzali Mohideen, General Manager.
