Waters Edge transforms into a Winter Wonderland this Christmas

15 November 2015 06:30 pm

Everything about Christmas is nostalgic. And nothing brings back the fond memories of the season like the first tunes of a familiar Christmas carol that have just begun to be played on the radio. Of all those passed down over generations ‘Winter Wonderland’ transports you to a magical place of snow, sleighs and Santa’s reindeer. At Waters Edge this season, the hotel by the lake is being transformed into the classic images of Christmas cards with their very own version of a ‘Winter Wonderland’.

Starting from the entrance near Diyatha Uyana, a 15-feet tall ‘W’ will be set up and illuminated at night. It will also be surrounded by Christmas trees in various heights. To give that magical Christmas feeling, the road leading to the hotel will also be adorned with strings of fairy lights. Santa’s sleigh complete with his reindeer will be parked just outside Sri Lanka’s only drive-in bakery. The entire hotel will also be set alight adding a dazzle and sparkle to the entire atmosphere.

The festivities for the season will kick off with a grand kiddies’ party being held for the third time this year on Sunday, December 6 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Santa Claus and his little elves are set to make a grand entrance while many modern day superheroes will also make a special appearance. Rides, bouncers, face painting and a variety of games for both kids and kids-at-heart will culminate with the lighting of the 30-feet tall Waters Edge Christmas tree which will be made out of glass tubes and illuminated at night. This majestic tree is another first in a string of many innovative ideas introduced to Sri Lanka by Waters Edge. Kids and adults can also enjoy a scrumptious buffet with all the festive favourites. As an added treat, Cinnamon Air will fly kids and their parents to enjoy the scenic view of the Winter Wonderland at special prices.

A cappella choir will bring back good ol’ memories at the Waters Edge signature restaurant Pranzo while a kid’s choir will serenade guests during High Tea on December 19.

Come Christmas Eve families will gather at the Waters Edge to herald in Christmas with a gala dinner accompanied by the soothing sounds of the saxophone. Christmas lunch and dinner will also feature an extensive menu of all-time favourite goodies with special treats for the young ones. The festivities will continue on Boxing Day for when you need to take a well-deserved rest with family and friends.
