Mihin Lanka launches Colombo-Kolkata inaugural flight

Mihin Lanka yesterday launched its inaugural flight from Colombo to Kolkata. Members of the travel trade, along with the senior management of Mihin Lanka, were on board the aircraft, which took the first set of passengers to Kolkata from Bandaranaike International Airport.

The airline has included Kolkata in its regional route network, as part its five-year expansion plan to achieve greater growth, whilst enhancing connectivity throughout the region. Mihin Lanka is also the first airline in the world to offer a direct flight between Colombo and Kolkata.

Commenting on the inaugural flight, Mihin Lanka Director/Chief Executive Officer Rakhita Jayawardena stated, “We are pleased to commence flights to Kolkata, which is an important commercial, cultural and educational centre in East India. By offering direct flights between Colombo and Kolkata, we will be able to strengthen Mihin Lanka’s product offering and we will also be able to provide our passengers with added convenience and value. We look forward to offering economical and comfortable flights, as well as exceptional standards of service, to more passengers, as we embark on this new phase of growth.”
With effect from June 20, 2015, Mihin Lanka will introduce its new Business Class with an enhanced ground and inflight service that will provide passengers with greater comfort and value-added service.
