Citrus Waskaduwa hosts Commonwealth Chess Championship

The Commonwealth Chess Championship 2016, organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka together with FIDE and the Commonwealth Chess Association, will be held from 30th July to 7th August at Citrus Waskaduwa Hotel (Kalutara). 


The tournament will be conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess and FIDE Swiss System with 10 rounds. 3 million worth of cash rewards will be awarded along with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to those participating in the Open, Women, Senior (Above 60 years), Under-20 (Boys and Girls), Under-18 (Boys and Girls), Under-16 (Boys and Girls), Under-14 (Boys and Girls), Under-12 (Boys and Girls), Under-10 (Boys and Girls), Under-8 (Boys and Girls) categories. The medal winners will be referred to as Commonwealth Medalists. 


A total of 300 participants will be attending the event with nearly 150 from Sri Lanka while the others represent England, Australia, Canada, South Africa, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives 
and Malaysia.
