Volatile market

Notable level of intraday volatility was seen in the Colombo bourse today. The market started the operations in early trading in the negative territory where a sharp pull back was seen in the mid trading session. However in the latter part of the day the market lost its momentum to end negative. 
 
ASI decreased by 5.14 points (-0.08%) to end at 6,316.87 while liquid MPI dipped by 7.08 points (-0.13%) to settle at 5,634.25. Market turnover was posted at Rs.619.2mn.
 
John Keells Holdings Plc (Rs.99.4mn) emerged as the top contributor to the turnover. Moreover Chevron Lubricant Plc (Rs.74.4mn) and Ceylon Glass Plc (Rs.35.0mn) made significant contributions to the daily turnover.
 
Meanwhile retail counters such as HVA Foods Plc, Colombo Land & Development Plc and PC House Plc displayed active level of trading.
 
Oversubscription rate of the People’s leasing IPO was announced today at 1.8 times.
 
Foreign participation stood at 22.1% of the total market activity. At the end of the day foreign investors were the net buyers with a net foreign inflow of Rs.151.5mn.
