Foreign inflows top Rs.23bn

Stocks ended two-week high yesterday led by diversified shares such as conglomerate John keels Holdings PLC, while foreign inflows also helped boost turnover.

Foreign investors were net buyers of Rs.121.5 million s worth of shares, extending the year-to-date net foreign inflows to the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) Rs.23.1 billion. According to CSE data, the net foreign inflow in the month of October amounted to Rs.3.1 billion.

At yesterday’s trading, the main share index rose 0.34 percent, or 20.21 points, to 5,954.62, its highest close since October 17.

John Keells Holdings PLC shares ended up 1.68 percent, while Carson Cumberbatch PLC, another diversified firm, rose 4.56 percent.

The day’s turnover was Rs.632.6 million, less than this year’s daily average of Rs.870.7 million.
