Choppy trading

The Colombo Equity market witnessed a choppy trading session today, indices closing on the alternate directions.

ASI declined marginally by 8.43 points (-0.16%) to close at 5,416.57 and liquid MPI increased by 18.63 points (+0.38%) to end at 4,881.42.
Market turnover registered at Rs.627.3mn.

John Keells Holdings Plc (Rs.248.9mn) was the top contributor to the daily turnover. In addition Aitken Spence Hotel Holdings Plc (Rs.56.4mn) and Sampath Bank Plc (Rs.54.7mn) made significant contributions to the daily turnover.

In the meantime Environmental Resources Plc, Orient Garment Plc and HVA Foods Plc traded actively during the day.

Foreign participation recorded at 25.8% of the total market activity and at the end of the day foreign investors were the net buyers with a net foreign inflow of Rs.39.2mn.
