Bourse plunges

The Colombo Stock exchange experienced yet another heavy dip today where benchmark indices witnessed a considerable downfall. Furthermore the market capitalization of CSE fell below Rs.2tn mark.
 
ASI closed at 5,442.25, down 119.18 points (-2.1%) while sensitive MPI settled at 4,721.79, down 84.2 (-1.8%). Market turnover stood at Rs.868.7mn.
 
Premier Blue-chip John Keells Holdings Plc (Rs.135.4mn) made the strongest contribution to the daily turnover followed by Expo Lanka Holdings Plc (Rs.79.0mn) and Swarnamahal Financial Plc (Rs.76.9mn). Moreover JKH recorded a crossing of 0.2mn shares at a price of Rs.170.00.
 
Meanwhile Asia Asset Finance Plc, Environmental resources Plc and Nation Lanka Finance Plc traded actively during the day.
 
Foreign participation stood at 27.6% of the total market activity and at the end of the day foreign investors were the net buyers with a net foreign inflow of Rs.239.5mn.
