Bourse Celebrates Christmas in Green…24th Dec 2010

The All Share Price Index gained 46.4 points to close at 6,558.25 points (+0.7%), whilst the Milanka Price Index also gained 10.1 points to close at 6,985.0 points (+0.1%).

 

The total turnover was LKR1,293.4 mn (USD11,628.2 k)  vs. 12-month average daily turnover of LKR2,388.5 mn (USD21,473.5k) whilst the volume traded for the day was 34,156.6 k against the 12-month average daily volume of 74,470 k.

Colombo bourse continued to edge upwards, but on a lethargic tone. Heavyweight John Keells Holdings emerged as the top traded counter during the day on the back of institutional interest. Aitken Spence shed some ground during the day although strong institutional activity was seen in the counter. Further Coco Lanka enticed institutional and high net worth interest during the day whilst Tokyo Cement (Non voting) remained a top trader with institutional and retail interest. PC House was seen as a top retail pick during the day.

 

Net outflow of foreign funds was seen during the day, where foreign purchases amounted to LKR54.6 mn (USD490.9 k), whilst foreign sales amounted to LKR305.1 mn (USD2,743.0 k).

 

Market capitalization is at LKR2,184.4 bn. YTD market performance is up 93.7%.
