Former Australia all-rounder and reputed commentator Tom Moody has emerged as the new director of Sri Lanka cricket. Moody has previously served as Sri Lanka’s coach and ushered them to the finals of the 2007 World Cup. Moody has also been in coaching and directorial roles with IPL franchises, Global T20 Canada, Pakistan Super League teams, and the Big Bash League. His job as Sri Lanka cricket’s director will begin today.
Moody’s appointment arrives after recommendations from the Technical Advisory Committee of the SLC to rebuild Sri Lanka cricket’s operations. The 55-year-old’s role would be on a consultancy basis, and he has to fulfil 300 days of ‘Mandatory Assignment’ during his contracted three-year duration.
The former Australian cricketer’s duties comprise of Analysis of the Future Tour Program, focusing on the Domestic Tournament Structure, Player Welfare, Education and Skill Development, Coaching and Support Staff Structure and High Performance and Data Analytics.
“Tom has worked with Sri Lanka Cricket in the past and has shown results, and I am sure with his working knowledge of the system, Tom will add greater value to our game,’’ Ashley De Silva, CEO of SLC, was also quoted as saying.
