Suranjith Dharmasena and Mahes Zoysa

Sri Lanka’s two veteran cricketers, Suranjith Dharmasena and Mahes Zoysa, who were stranded in South Africa for four months returned to their country on Sunday.
Dharmasena and Zoysa were part of the Sri Lankan Veterans Cricket Team which participated in the Over-50 Cricket World Cup held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The rest of the Sri Lankan players of course returned immediately when the tournament was called off because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Yes, exactly after four months and three days, we were able to return to our country,” Mahes Zoysa, who was the Assistant Manager of the team told the Daily Mirror yesterday.
“We arrived via Doha, Qatar on Sunday morning and are currently on a strict quarantine under the Army supervised private hotel in Negombo.”
“We were well looked after by the South Africa Veterans Cricket Association. They supported us a lot,” he further added.
Meanwhile, Zoysa is determined to host the Over-50 Masters Cricket Tournament in Sri Lanka early next year.
In addition, the Veterans Cricket World Cup is also scheduled to be played in Australia next year.
