Schools rugby to resume in November!

The Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) at a meeting held at Royal College could not come to a conclusion of a definite date to conduct the Inter-Schools Under-19 Rugby Tournament which came to a standstill in March due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Speculations were rife that the schools had been granted permission to play friendly matches but Susantha Mendis, Vice-President of the SLSRFA totally denied, saying ‘no school has been granted permission to play’.
However, if any tournament is to be held, it would only be after the conclusion of the GCE Advanced Level Examination in early November.

Players in their final year of representing their respective schools would be given an opportunity to participate in a tournament which most probably will be conducted in late November.

“The players need to be given two weeks to practice if any tournament is to be conducted and we are trying our best to be fair to the boys who will be playing their final season.”

“So, it would most probably be a seven-a-side or a 10-a-side tournament that would be held with the regulations set by the Ministry of Health.” he added. (MSA)
