The Dambulla Viiking team has added Ramith Rambukwella in the squad, it is learnt here. The 29-year-old opening batsman Rambukwella, who can also bowl off-breaks replaces Afghanistan’s pace bowler Aftab Alam. Alam left the Lanka Premier League (LPL) because of his own illness.

“We have one known off-spinner in the squad, Rambukwella’s addition will strengthen our bowling attack,” one of the sources, speaking exclusively, said. Rambukwella has played 2 T-20i for Sri Lanka. However, he did not open in any of these international matches.

In the meantime, Dale Steyn who arrived in Sri Lanka a week ago has completed his mandatory seven-day quarantine, and is available for selection in the Kandy Tuskers’ next match, which is against Jaffna Stallions in Hambantota on December 9. Sri Lanka national coach Mickey Arthur made this revelation while on commentary during the match on Saturday.

Pakistani pace bowler Sohail Tanvir, who tested positive and therefore could not play for the Kandy Tuskers team, left Sri Lanka two days ago. Whereas, Canada’s Ravindra Pal Singh (Colombo Kings) will leave for the USA within two days, it is learnt.

All LPL players, including those who have left early have been paid 60% of the match fees. What payment arrangements will be worked out for the players leaving early is not known.
