Former Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has undergone cardiac treatment in Chennai, Indian media reported yesterday.

Muralitharan, the holder of the record for the most wickets in Test cricket, is currently in India as part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad backroom staff, and was reported to have had the procedure during a check-up.

The news was reported on Indian cricket website Cricbuzz, quoting a Sunrisers official, who said Muralitharan is like to return to the team in a few days.

He had consulted doctors in Sri Lanka over blockage in his heart before coming for the IPL. He was initially told there was no need for any stents but at the Apollo Hospital here in Chennai, he was advised angioplasty. He immediately got it done. He is very much fine and he should back in the ground in a few days,” the official said.
