Hebert Sr. was a colon cancer survivor who had multiple strokes and had open heart surgery for a birth defect.
Hebert Jr., who works for WWL Radio in New Orleans, discussed his father’s battle with the virus on a recent radio appearance, breaking down in tears as he spoke.
“You can be tough and the virus can still overwhelm you,” Hebert Jr. said on air, according to ESPN.
He called coronavirus ‘an unseen enemy.’
Hebert Jr.’s son T-Bob, a former centre and guard on the LSU Football Team from 2008-11, honoured his grandfather via Twitter on Saturday.
“He is the wisest, kindest, and most tactful person I have ever known,” T-Bob Hebert wrote.
“He passed this morning and I love him and I will miss him.”
