Black Lions (BL) clinched the ‘THORA’ Tennis Challenge Cup ‘2020 for the fourth successive year when they beat Blue Sharks (BS) 7-2 in the Annual Matale, ‘Thora’ Tennis League Tournament final played at the Matale District Tennis Club Courts recently.
BL and BS with 10 players in each team competed in the tournament which was conducted by the ‘Thora’ Tennis Academy in Matale. The final encounter had six singles and three doubles.
Yasassri Liyanage (BS) who won two singles against Madura Hewamulla (9-8) and Ganidu Samarakoon (9-1) was named Best Player in the Senior League Tournament.
Madura Hewamulla (BL) lost to Yasassri Liyanage (BS) 8-9, Nirmal Senanayake (BL) beat Chamud Samaraweera (BS) 9-7, Ganidu Samarakoon (BL) beat Yewanthaka Dharmasinghe (BS) 9-4, Udith Senanayake (BL) beat Isira Koswatta (BS) 9-2, Nirmal Senanayake (BL) beat Shanoori Shukri (BS) 9-3, Ganidu Samarakoon (BL) lost to Yasassri Liyanage (BS) 1-9.
(Doubles): Madura Hewamulla and Udith Senanayake (BL) beat Chamud Samaraweera and Shehan Wijekoon (BS) 6-3, Nirmal Senanayake and Nayon Lochana (BL) beat Shanoori Shukri and Rahil Rehan (BS) 6-4, Devinda Dharmasinghe and Dulan Wijekoon (BL) beat Aadil Ziyad and Yewanthaka Dharmasinghe (BS) 6-4.
