The Sports Ministry has advised all Provincial Sports Directors that inter-provincial competitions and events of the 46th National Sports Festival which could not be concluded as scheduled this year should be held before March 31.
Since none of the provinces could conduct any preliminary competitions of the 46th National Sports Festival, the Department of Sports Development (DSD) and Provincial Directors are considering combining the events with the 2021 edition of the festival, DSD Director General Amal Edirisooriya told the ‘Daily Mirror’.
By combining the 2020 and 2021 events it would not cause any unfair competition to the participants, the DSD director general said.
The secretariat divisions will be conducting district competitions from April. DSD is making arrangement to conduct provincial events and the National Sports Festival.
There are 31 disciplines in the National Sports Festival. The athletics and 19 other sports competitions will be held in Colombo while the other events will be held outside the capital.
The 46th and 47th National Sports Festival will be held following stringent health regulations under the guidance of the Sports Ministry and the Institute of Sports Medicine.
